About Organization: HISTORY OF KWASA Khulna city is located in southwest Bangladesh where the consequences of climate change are severe due to its geographical location. As a deltaic plain, the land is flat and poorly drained. The city is about only 2.5m above the MSL and the land is influenced by the river Bhairab and Rupsha. Rapid growth of population and economic activities.The average annual rainfall is 1900-2000 mm and maximum temperature is 33c during March to May. Saline intrusion in Surface and Ground water. High demand for improved water supply, sewerage and drainage facilities. The Khulna water supply system established in 1921 with a SWTP having capacity of 900 m3/day. In 1960, DPHE started construction of deep production tube wells and operating water supply system in Khulna city. In 1990, DPHE handed over Water Supply System to Khulna City Corporation (KCC). With a view to expand & improve the services of water supply for the Khulna city, Government of Bangladesh established Khulna Water Supply and Sewerage Authority on March 2, 2008 under article 3 of WASA Act 1996.
